The case came to light after a video showing the brutal assault of a young man in the upscale area of the metropolis sparked outrage on social media. The footage showed the victim being beaten with a baseball bat and pleading with his attackers for mercy as several men surrounded and assaulted him.

Jafri was represented by lawyers Talha Baloch and Usama Ali.During the hearing, the defence counsel claimed that the viral video of the incident had actually been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The lawyer also alleged that the victim was being pressured into having the case registered.
Jafri’s lawyers called for a forensic examination of the video of the suspects while the investigating officer sought the physical remand of the suspects. The court subsequently approved a three-day physical remand of Waqas and Ibrahim and handed them over to the police.
According to the police FIR the case was registered at Sahil Police Station on the complaint of the victim, Jafri, who nominated five suspects, including two unidentified individuals. The nominated suspects include Ali Faisal, Ibrahim Malik and Ibrahim, while provisions relating to harassment, kidnapping and threats to kill, among others, have been included in the case.In his statement to police, Jafri said he was a resident of Martin Quarters and an ACCA student.
